Ideation and Inspiration
Our journey began with an exploration into the potential of digital olfaction. Inspired by immersive sensory experiences, we focused on how scents could influence temperature perception. We investigated the trigeminal nerve's role in sensing temperature and chemical stimuli. Building on prior work (e.g., “Smells for the Paris Agreement”), we envisioned a wearable that manipulates temperature perception through scent—adding a new dimension to comfort and environmental interaction.
My Role
I researched olfaction and trigeminal pathways and led scent selection (peppermint & black pepper). I emphasized ergonomic, comfortable form factors, and implemented the control board for scent switching. I also designed and ran user tests to evaluate efficacy and reception—informing iterative improvements.
“From concept to creation, CLIMATISE SCENT embodies our commitment to enhancing digital interaction through the sophisticated symphony of scents.”
Challenges & Solutions
Delivering perceptible yet unobtrusive scent required innovation. I proposed a vaporization technique driven by airflow to enhance experience. To adapt to changing conditions, I contributed to an algorithm that adjusts release based on ambient temperature.
Creating CLIMATISE SCENT was an amazing ride—mixing tech with the sense of smell and seeing ideas come to life. It’s innovative and fun, and the process kept a smile on our faces.
